Meet Chérie
Let Them Sniff is led by Chérie Wilkinson, certified in Dog Training and Behaviour by The National Dog Trainers Federation. Chérie has worked with hundreds of dogs and their owners throughout Canberra, both privately and in roles such as a dog training class instructor at a local dog services business and the ACT Companion Dog Club.
Chérie is passionate about animal welfare. For the majority of her adult life, she has been involved in rescue, including long-term fosters, rehabilitation, and participation in bushfire relief efforts.
Before committing to working with dogs full-time, Chérie enjoyed a decade-long career as a high school teacher. She discovered many parallels between working with dogs and educating young people, such as empathy, consistency, and clear communication. Her background in education has instilled in her a commitment to lifelong learning. Chérie actively seeks further education opportunities, regularly attending courses and conferences to enhance her expertise and refine her practice.

Our Philosophy
At Let Them Sniff, we believe in a holistic approach that prioritises the mental, physical, and biological needs of dogs. Our primary goal is to foster well-balanced, content, and manageable companions, starting with the fulfilment of each dog's fundamental needs. Whether it's engaging in enrichment activities, allowing them to move their bodies freely in nature, or providing outlets for their breed-specific drives through tailored games.
When it comes to challenging behaviours, we employ a combination of management strategies and gradual exposure. Learning and behaviour change can involve stress for our dogs (and us!), but we strive to support them through this process by building their resilience, confidence, and decompression capabilities with our holistic approach.
We also recognise the importance of supporting and empowering dog owners. We understand the challenges and frustrations that can come with sharing our homes with another species. We're here to provide you with some much-needed breathing space and practical solutions that fit into your lifestyle.

More Than A Walk
More Than A Walk

45mins - for all breeds and ages
Incorporating activities like tug, sniffaris, herding/hunting games, parkour, and nosework tailored to fulfilling your dog's needs, we ensure every session moves their body, works their brain, and includes targeted relaxation work. We prefer open spaces and nature reserves for these sessions (transport included) and the use of a long lead to prevent frustration. Ideal for dogs who struggle on regular walks and may need space from other dogs and people.

Got a specific training goal in mind? Our training sessions are designed to support your dog while working on new skills and behaviours. Similar to our "More than a Walk" sessions, each session engages your dog's body and mind, incorporating targeted activities to progress towards their training goals. Session locations are tailored to your dog's needs, typically starting at your home and expanding into more challenging environments.
Puppy Package
Puppy Package
$200/Week
3hr/week - ages up to 6 months
New puppy? This program is designed to set your puppy up for success during their crucial developmental stage. Your 3 hours a week can be divided into sessions across the 2 days I'm in Canberra and will feature at least one exposure outing (e.g. to the lake, a cafe, Bunnings, etc.). We focus on calm handling, settling in the house, toilet training, leash skills, food manners, polite play, engagement, and building confidence.

We can offer a variety of services to cater to your specific needs, and not just for dogs. Whether it's administering medication, providing companionship, or transportation, touch base with us to discuss your requirements.

Let Them Sniff acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognises the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. I wish to acknowledge the Ngunnawal people as traditional custodians of the land we meet, adventure on and draw stability from. I also recognise any other people or families with a connection to the lands of the ACT and region. People have connected with this land, engaged in teaching and learning and worked with their animal teams here for tens of thousands of years.
